Aliya Hirji, BSN, RN, FNP is a labor and delivery nurse at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a level 1 trauma hospital and Harvard-affiliated teaching hospital located in Boston, Massachusetts. Born and raised in Calgary, Canada, Aliya has always loved helping others and pursued excellence in her work.
From an individual level, Aliya has learned the virtue of humility, compassion, and commitment. Working at a level 1 trauma hospital and tertiary referral center in Boston. Brigham and Women’s Hospital also has a level III NICU, and Aliya works closely with Neonatologists who provide the highest level of care for premature and critically ill newborns.
Aliya has had the opportunity to challenge herself clinically, persevere through difficult patient encounters and understands ways to adapt to challenging patient care needs. These experiences have been vital for her personal growth and allowed her to excel as a caring and dedicated nurse.
Aliya has been recognized by her hospital by being nominated for the Daisy Award, which is based on extraordinary inpatient care at the hospital. She has also been awarded the Brigham Way Award, a recognition by the faculty and hospital staff for individuals who go above and beyond to help others. She has been awarded the White Coat Award from MCPHS University where she completed her masters as a Nurse Practitioner. This award exemplifies professionalism and demonstrates the ability to inspire and lead others for the benefits of fellow students. These awards reflect her sheer commitment to helping others, her work ethic and overall attitude towards the betterment of others. Most recently, Aliya was chosen to represent her hospital and be featured in the “She’s a Hero” campaign to demonstrate the accurate portrayal of women working in the field of healthcare.
Within the Ismaili Muslim community, Aliya has been a leader on Health Board. Tasked with a goal of disseminating evidence-based health information, organizing health screening workshops, and developing table forums. She has always helped her community in many ways including creating support groups for expectant mothers to guide and coach them as they go through the different phases in their pregnancy and postpartum. Aliya was instrumental in providing COVID vaccines to the members of the community during the height of the pandemic in Boston. Aliya is currently the Ismaili Health Professional Association Northeast lead.
